Week 8 reflection

With no tasks appointed this week, we were able to start collecting books and posting them up onto our blog(secondhandtextbooks.blogspot.com). We thought that we had done enough for the week but our facilitator remnided us that we have to create a financial system so that people can buy the books easily. Now we have learnt quite a bit about setting up a financial system and are trying our best to set up one on the blog.

Reflections week 7

This week, we learned something very important. Our topic is to sell second hand textbooks, but what kind of textbooks are most Singaporeans interested in buying, or do Singaporeans prefer buying second hand story books compared to textbooks? That is why we have to have surveys. Surveys tells us what Singaporeans want/prefer. That is why without surveys, we might be selling what people do not want and thus our project is a failure. We now understand the importance of the survey.

Time's really tight.

The title tells it all.

I'm really sorry, as we are just starting to get serious about GRACE. We've done all our worksheets and I'll make the first step forward by uploading all the images.

This are the images for the Week 2 worksheets.

As I have absolutely no idea how to post images, I just uploaded them onto box.net. Below are the websites, and I'm sorry, as you'll have to download them to view it.

Thus, this is the website for the Week 2 worksheet.

Reflection Week 6

We have realized  that we need to hand up assignment on time, as our time calibration is very bad, and also at the same time, we realize that if we have unity and teamwork, things will turn out very simple and also at the same time there will not be any inter conflict with team mates. As long as we stay as a team, IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING!

Planning

This would be our plan. In weeks to come, we have decided to only briefly work on GRACE, as the common test is coming in just a few weeks. As this is an important year, we've decided to put GRACE on hold.

After doing this planning, we will stop GRACE for a week or two, by then the common test would be starting. After the common test, we will go ahead with collecting old textbooks via advertisements and asking from relatives and friends.

The advertisements will be posted on pillars or fences near the perceived 'hot spots' around the school, mainly the Multi Purpose Court, Basketball Court, Toilets, and pillars around the classrooms. This way, we believe that people would read the notice and donate books.

Next, whilst getting the books is already having 'one hand on the cup', the next step is how to attract people to buy it. As putting up banners around Singapore is illegal(I think, isn't it?), we will give out flyers at various HDB estates, and maybe people who would like to save money would purchase our books, which will be priced at a relatively cheaper price than at bookstores or the school bookshop.

Next, whilst this is all going on, an email will be provided in the advertisements and the flyers for people to contact us to meet up for payment and collection of the books. When sales reach a peak, the money received will be used to cover our costs for the flyers, advertisements, the transportation fares and such.

Then, we will donate the proceeds will be donated to a legit charity in Singapore, to help other people. The main purpose of this project is to help the sick and the elderly, and mainly for charity.

Week 4 Reflection

This week, we discussed further about our guiding questions that would help us with our project as instructed. Our task was to list out the research questions and area's of research that our group will be looking into.

The research/guiding questions on the worksheet has been posted earlier on the blog. Other than that, Ms tan, our IPW teacher in charge, suggested that we could sell storybooks too, instead of only old textbooks. She also gave us some ideas as how to promote our blog and create awareness of us selling these books like we could give out some fliers, make an announcement or do a notice board.

We discussed about the price that we would sell our books at and came to a conclusion that it had to be reasonable as the profit we get for selling the books will all go towards charity. One of us brought up the idea on how to deliver books to those who bought them but we have yet to come to a conclusion.

Lastly, i feel teamwork is an important factor to success.
